Bio

  • The Academic Choir of Petrozavodsk State University is a mixed choir of one of the main universities in North-Western Russia. In 2017 the choir is celebrating its 55th anniversary. At the moment it consists of about 100 members. They are current and former students of different university faculties (Mathematics, Physics, Medicine, Building, Philology, History)
  • During its long history the choir has won a lot of awards. Due to old choral traditions it has acquired a magnificent and expressive sound. The repertoire includes Russian church music, Russian classical and contemporary music, works by foreign composers, Russian folk songs and works by Karelian composers. The choir was the first in Russia to perform some works by contemporary foreign composers and choral jazz music.
  • In 55 years of existence the choir has performed in cities and towns of the Republic of Karelia and Russian Federation, as well as in Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Belorus, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Austria, France, and Greece.
  • Petrozavodsk University's Academic Choir is a prize-winner of international, Russian and local (Karelian) contests and festivals.
