Menlopark High School Choir

  • Menlopark High School is one of the prestige Afrikaans High Schools in South Africa. The mixed choir was founded in 1992 and consists of 115 pupils between the ages of 14 and 18. Choir singing is an extramural activity and the choir practices twice a week in the evenings.
  • The Choir’s first European tour in 2008 took them to Turkey, the Czech Republic and Austria. They took part in the World Choir Games in the category Mixed Youth Choirs in Graz and 8th place with a score of 79 points.
  • Their second tour in 2010 took them to Bratislava where they came second in al three catagories with 90%, 91% and 92%. In 2013 They took part in the Summa Cum Laude Choir Competition in Vienna where they won the Youth Choir Category. In their second World Choir Games in Sochi 2016 the achieved 4th place in the category Mixed Youth choirs with a score of 76,88 and in the Folklore a capella 75,13 points awarding them two silver medals. During World Choir Games in Tswane 2018 the choir took part in two categories Mixed Youth and Gospel, where they obtained a golden and silver medal.
