Dirigent: Sondra-Marie Grobbelaar

Bio

  • The St. John’s D.S.G choir was formed in 1929 and has since, had a long-standing tradition of public performances. However, it was only in 2016 that the competition choir was formed. The choir has always been an integral part of the school, performing regularly at church services, events and even special occasions involving important members of society.
  • Today, the choir continues to perform at these events and services, enriching the wider community through music and teamwork. In 2018, under the leadership of Carika de Swardt, the choir participated in their first ever World Choir Games competition in the open category for the Music of Spirit and Faith section, in which they were crowned category winners. The choir currently consists of around 50 girls between the ages of 13 and 18 from various different backgrounds and cultures including Zulu, English, Afrikaans, German and Xhosa.
