The Kuala Lumpur Children's Choir

Land: Maleisië
Dirigent: Darrel Chan

  • The Kuala Lumpur Children’s Choir consists of over 120 young singers aged between 3 and 16. The primary philosophy of the choir is to introduce choral singing as a healthy curriculum in a fun and relaxed environment based on the Kodaly Method of teaching. These young singers are nurtured and encouraged in the hope that their abilities will be recognized, which will in turn lead to the raising of standards of choral singing in Malaysia.
  • The Kuala Lumpur Children’s Choir has collaborated on numerous occasions with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) in concerts such as the Lord of the Rings Symphony, Some Enchanted Evening with Sir Willard White, Mahler Symphony No. 3, Carmen Opera and the choir also sang the Malaysian premiere of Carl Davies’ work Creepy Crawlies with the composer himself conducting.
  • The choir has won many prizes and awards and made successful tours to Australia, Austria, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Latvia, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam and South Korea They have also collaborated and shared the stage with many international ensembles such as the All American Boys’ Chorus (USA), New York Harlem Singers (USA), City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (UK), Hong Kong Treble Choir (Hong Kong), Pretoria Girls’ High Choir and Pro-Cantu Youth Choir (South Africa), Zvjezdice Choir(Croatia), and Kinderchor der Staatsoper Unter den Linden to name but a few. Notable festival appearances include the 20th International Kodaly Symposium in Brisbane (Australia), Singapore International Youth Choir Festival (Singapore) both in 2011, and a regular guest choir at the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod (Children’s Symposium).
